Katelyn Starr

I am a Bioengineering undergraduate at Stanford University with a passion for human movement, biomechanics, and the intersection of engineering and clinical care.

My journey is driven by a curiosity about how the human body works—and how we can use technology to help it work better. From analyzing ACL injury kinematics in the Neuromuscular Biomechanics Lab to studying muscle fascicle dynamics at the Julius Wolff Institute in Berlin, I’ve spent my academic career exploring the mechanics of motion.

• I’m experienced in motion capture systems (OpenCap), MATLAB, and Python for data analysis. I’ve worked across international borders to contribute to gait analysis and ultrasound imaging research.
• Beyond the data, I am a Spiritual Care Volunteer at Stanford Medicine. I believe that the best engineering solutions come from a place of empathy and a deep understanding of the people they are meant to serve.
• When I’m not in the lab, I’m likely jumping rope. As a 3x Canadian National Champion and a member of Team Canada, I’ve learned the value of precision, persistence, and performing under pressure—skills that I bring into every research project I tackle.

I am currently working toward my BS in Bioengineering (expected 2026) with a minor in German Studies. I am always looking for opportunities to collaborate on projects involving biomechanics, medical device design, or any challenge that requires a blend of technical rigor and creative problem-solving.
